Ways to relieve acid reflux without medication- Specialist Medicals

Acid reflux can cause sore throats and hoarseness and may leave a bad taste in your mouth. When acid reflux produces chronic symptoms, it is known as gastroesophageal reflux disorder or GERD. The most common symptom of GERD is heartburn—pain in the upper abdomen and chest that sometimes feel like you're having a heart attack.

Here's how you can manage the acid-reflux disease:
  • Eat sparingly and slowly. When the stomach is very full, there can be more reflux into the esophagus.
  • Avoid certain foods.
  • Don't drink carbonated beverages.
  • Stay up after eating.
  • Don't move too fast.
  • Sleep on an incline.
  • Lose weight if it's advised.
  • If you smoke, quit.

1. Eat sparingly and slowly

When we eat too quickly we end up eating more than we need, which leads to poor digestion, weight gain, and lower satisfaction from eating. Eating slowly, in contrast, makes for better digestion, easier weight maintenance – and much greater satisfaction from our meals.

2. Avoid certain foods

People with acid reflux were once instructed to eliminate all but the blandest foods from their diets. But there are still some foods that are more likely than others to trigger reflux, including mint, fatty foods, spicy foods, tomatoes, onions, garlic, coffee, tea, chocolate, and alcohol. If you eat any of these foods regularly, you might try eliminating them to see if doing so controls your reflux, and then try adding them back one by one.

Certain foods are regarded as having a higher risk of containing the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes which can be harmful to pregnant women and their baby or other bacteria such as Salmonella, which also causes food poisoning.

3. Don't drink carbonated beverages

They make you burp, which sends acid into the esophagus. Drink flat water instead of sparkling water.

4. Sleep on an incline

Many benefits are tied to elevated sleeping, including reduced acid reflux, improved heart health, and better circulation, which can improve restless leg syndrome symptoms.
